A bear is a term for someone who thinks that a market is heading downward, and aims to benefit from that decline by shorting prices. A whale is a term for someone that holds a large number of assets, in this case in cryptocurrency.

Combining those two animals together makes a bearwhale, came about in October 2014 when a bitcoin investor sold 30 000 bitcoins, which resulted in a market megadump, $ 325-330 exchange rate was pushed to $ 298-300 at a glance.
