In general, I can say that we trust our passwords. Especially if you spiced things up and use something different from your date of birth or your pet's name. What about private keys? How long would it take to crack our Bitcoin wallet?

Fortunately, Better Buys recently launched an online password checker where you can enter your password (although we wouldn't recommend doing so), and the system calculates how long it would take for a hacker to crack it.

You mustn't enter one of your current passwords! The site does not store what you have typed in, but for your security it is better to pay attention to it.

How long would it take to crack a private key in a Bitcoin wallet without having any information about it?

Bitcoin private key is essentially "just" a 256-bit number that can be represented as a 64-digit hexadecimal number. If you enter a number like this on the website, how much time do you estimate your password to break? According to the program, it would take forever. But we tested a simple alternative of a few characters that "only" required 54814136 millennia to break through.

How strong is a typical password now - and how strong was it in the 1980s? Type a word (not your current password) and drag the slider to select the year to see how long it will take for someone to guess your password. It can range from a millisecond to infinity before anyone can find the solution and access your data.
